Fine grain Spruce top. Fine grain spruce is more flexible than spruce with a broader grain. Thus fine grain spruce is ideal for the top of string instruments.
Two-piece Maple back. Fiddleback maple boasts a three dimensional series of alternate light and dark strips (see picture) that shade into one another as the instrument is slightly moved, thus producing an illusion of waves.

Violin ships new in a durable box. Shipping weight is 10 lbs. Actual weight of individual violins vary, but are all very lightweight.
